Support Worker (Full time)

Aboriginal Child & Youth Wellness Program

Native Healing Centre

The Support Worker with the Aboriginal Child & Youth Wellness Program will develop and deliver prevention, wellness and risk reduction activities that are culturally relevant to the community; in the format of individual counselling (in person and virtually); groups, camps and workshops.

The team provides holistic services to primarily Indigenous people. The position includes working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, offering support for emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health. The role includes crisis intervention, referral and advocacy, individual outreach counselling, facilitating cultural connections, group facilitation, case management and other supportive services. The successful candidate will have:

  • A Degree in Social Work or any relevant field; experience will be considered an asset.
  • Certification in or willing to obtain: First Aid, Food Safe, Suicide Intervention, and Conflict Resolution.
  • Ability to undergo a successful criminal record search and MCFD pre-screening requirements.
  • Workshop facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of restorative justice and healing.
  • Depression/suicide/mental health assessment training.
  • Trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental, open-minded qualities, and a clear sense of professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
